In additon to their high quality musicianship, varied and colourful sound textures, and infectious enthusiasm, their performances are visually stunning.

Dart Music Festival 2013 - Jazz Night is Back.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND - JAZZ NIGHT AT THE FLAVEL

We are delighted to host an informal evening of top quality music with

The Martin Dale Quartet featuring Bruce Adams

Martin Dale

We are thrilled to welcome Martin Dale - one of the busiest and most popular saxophonists in the South West - and his Quartet, who will again be wowing the audience with a relaxed and informal evening of simply superb music.

Martin runs his own quartet, often appearing as a guest soloist and making regular appearances at UK Jazz festivals where he has performed with Lee Gibson, Alan Barnes, and Mark Nightingale.

He has also worked on the Q.E.2 as lead alto player, backing such artists as Neil Sedaka, Petula Clark, and Tom Jones, and has recorded for the BBC on radio and television sound tracks.

To date he has released 8CDs which have been played on both Radio 2,3 and Jazz FM.

For the Flavel Jazz Night Martin and his Quartet will be joined by well-known musician Bruce Adams.

Not only is Bruce (playing trumpet and flugelhorn) one the jazz scene’s most dramatic and stimulating performers, he is also a tremendously affable and entertaining companion.

Three times winner of the Best Trumpet category in the British Jazz Awards, Bruce is a regular guest star with bands such as Kenny Baker’s Dozen, Peter York’s Tribute to Gene Krupa, the BBC Big Band, the Scottish Radio Orchestra and the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.

Bruce has often worked as a special guest soloist with both the Scottish Radio Orchestra and the BBC Big Band, and his long-running musical partnership with saxophonist Alan Barnes has produced many plaudits and acclaimed recordings.

This fine collection of musicians will be playing together all evening in two sets with a 30 minute interval. The event promises something to please everyone, with an eclectic mix of well known ‘standards’, Latin tunes, a ballad or two - and not forgetting a large spoonful of ‘Be-Bop’!

DON’T MISS THIS VERY SPECIAL EVENT!

Dart Music Festival 2013 Line-Up - Breaking news...

RSVP Bhangra Band
The Bhangras are back! As if the recent news about Ruby Turner's return to the Festival wasn’t exciting enough, we are also thrilled to welcome back the energetic, endearing and hugely enjoyable RSVP Bhangra Band, who gave us all such a good time last year teaching us to ‘start a motorbike’ and ‘screw in a light bulb’ etc. to music. Trust me, there will be a lot of happy dancers in the Royal Avenue Gardens again this year when the irrepressible Bhangras are entertaining.

Bands and artists are still being confirmed but we’re delighted to announce preliminary details of the following stunning acts:

ZUM
Zum - The Original Gypsy Tango Band

It seems as if everyone has heard of Gypsy Tango these days, so it is easy to forget that this extremely popular genre did not exist until ZUM created it in the early years of this millennium.

If you want to check out the first - and best - Gypsy Tango band this is the place to be.

Why is it so good? The incredible virtuosity and improvisation skills of Adam Summerhayes and David Gordon, combined with their remarkable writing talents are a good start. Link that to the imaginative powerhouse provided by Chris Grist and the impeccable sense of style from Eddie Hession and Richard Pryce and something really special emerges … an alchemy that creates much more than the sum of its parts ...

ZUM first stormed the UK in 2001 with full houses throughout the country in a tour that culminated with two sell-outs in one day at the South Bank Centre.

24Pesos have a unique and energetic take on the Blues that has put them at the forefront of the new Blues scene in the UK and have been toted as "The UK's most exciting and original Blues band." by Maverick Magazine. 24Pesos play original music, with deep understanding of the Blues history, virtuoso instrumentation a joyous groove, real songs and enough energy to bring the house down every night.

Grupo Lokito - A fusion of contemporary Congolese and Latin music creating a modern day cocktail of two of the great world musics.Formed in 2006 by British Latin pianist Sara McGuinness and Congolese singer Jose Hendrix Ndelo, Grupo Lokito’s musicians are a mix of Congolese, Latin and British artists who have chosen to make London their home.Lokito’s energetic front-line of singers are true performers, and when the groove steps up a notch in the blistering salsa and seben sections, their outlandish dancing has to be seen to be believed – witness it first-hand on their video clips!

To name but a few… For further details of the 2013 line-up please check the website over the next few weeks – and don’t forget you’ll also be able to download a copy of the programme in due course.

I'll bring you more news as and when it comes in - watch this space...

RUBY RETURNS TO THE DART MUSIC FESTIVAL!

Ruby Turner - courtesy of Joe Murtagh

RUBY’S RETURNING!

The Dart Music Festival Committee simply cannot contain their excitement and are bursting to share it with you!

We’ve just had confirmation that the wonderful Ruby Turner – who wowed one and all with her fantastic performance two years ago – is returning this year with her headline act on the Bandstand.

If you missed her last time, you’re in for a very special treat as Ruby is indeed one very special lady. For those of you who didn’t catch her on ‘Later With Jools Holland’ at New Year, you can find out just how brilliant the lady is by visiting her website:  www.rubyturner.com

The site doesn’t have the strapline ‘Ruby Turner – soulful music’s most special talent’ for nothing - when you come along to the Bandstand, you’ll see what we mean.

Oh, and by the way, this is what The Guardian has to say about her: "Soul, Gospel, and R&B: Ruby Turner is truly the genuine article. Blessed with a voice that can breathe life and meaning into any song, whether it be a passionate ballad or a fast groove".

On hearing the news, those nice folk at the Compass Office Shop literally jumped for joy (yes, honestly – you had to be there…) - in fact, Simon Geen was heard to remark - and I quote – “I’ve been enjoying the Music Festival for ten years now, and I have to tell you that Ruby Turner’s performance of ‘I Would Rather Go Blind’ was the best thing I have ever seen and heard!”

Enough said? Aren’t we the lucky ones?

STOP PRESS! Have just heard from the lovely Ruby - this is what she has to say:

" I am thrilled to be invited back the Dart Festival again this year . You made us feel so welcome and such a wonderful time was had by all. Hope we can repeat that again. We look forward to playing for you again. Ruby"
