Decks@Ivy Lane - Dart Music Festival's Youth Venue

Decks@Ivy Lane – Dart Music Festival’s Youth Venue
DMF Committee member Ben Malley, who is running a sound engineering workshop at Ivy Lane during the Festival, says:

“Dart Music Festival is expanding its opportunities for participation this year and taking advantage of a surprisingly underused and under-appreciated town asset.

Situated just behind the Seale Arms, The Decks Youth Centre has been somewhat neglected in the passing years - despite its potential as a successful venue, practice space or general youth support centre.

It has also recently come under the possibility of closure from Devon County Council due to budget cuts - so the more support and interest in this space people can exhibit, the better.

During the Festival, there will be a variety of workshops and performances spanning the Saturday and Sunday, catering for every age, musical preference and level of ability.

On the Saturday, I shall be running a workshop based around the 'alternative' careers and styles the music industry has to offer.

Music festivals have plenty of opportunities for performers to showcase their skills and material, but the importance of roles such as sound engineers, electronic artists, producers etc. are often overlooked or misunderstood.

I shall be exploring and showcasing these different careers and performance techniques whilst offering insight into what skills and equipment are needed to start.

Other workshops include the Totnes School of Rock with Terence Waldstadt, which offers the opportunity to learn and perform classic rock songs alongside like- minded musicians.

Totnes’ Jamming Station will also be doing  workshops to invite aspiring young musicians who sing or play bass, drums or guitar to join them for a jamming session.

As well as the workshops, the Decks Youth Centre will also play host to performances. Kicking off proceedings on the Saturday afternoon is ‘Dartmouth’s Got Talent’ - a talent show where all performers are welcome - and on Sunday after the morning workshops there will be performances ranging from DJs, live bands including ‘Insonify’, and acoustic acts.

All equipment is provided from drum kits to PA system – and the Centre is even offering  free pizza at the lunch break!”

For full details of all the events at Decks@Ivy Lane please see your Dart Music Festival Programme or visit www.dartmusicfestival.co.uk

Because listening to music at Dart Music Festival is FREE - but running it is not! - we have to charge for the Programme.
The sales revenue is VITAL to the continuation of the Festival - thank you for understanding.
