The Hard Ground |
The Hard Ground are on the cusp of a wave following the release of their debut album 'Broken Conversations'.
The album is a beautiful collection of songs brimming with lush instrumentation and deep swooning melodies. The shared male / female vocal and song-writing duties between the angelic porcelain skinned Marlene Enright and Pat Carey's rugged husky delivery, gives the music an intriguing dynamic and at times highly personal intensity.

The album received huge critical acclaim on its release in their native Ireland in late 2012 with the first single 'Pawn' play-listed on national radio, a huge achievement for an unknown act with a self-released album.
The Hard Ground have now signed to legendary Irish independent label Fifa Records who will be releasing 'Broken Conversations' in Ireland and the UK in April'13
“...Classy Stuff and worth tracking down.” - Jackie Hayden, Hot Press
“’Pawn’ and ‘A Spirit Lament’ show the Cork quartet are quite different from anyone else active on the Cork circuit at the moment with Carey and Enright effortlessly switching vocals on top of quite lavish orchestration. Eager to hear more....” – The G Man (blog)
“....a sound that sits somewhere between Tom Waits and Lisa Hannigan. There’s even a touch of sinister songstress Anna Calvi about debut single ‘Pawn’, a song that’s equal parts sweet and sour.”
- Celina Murphy, Hot Press
