Eliza Jaye at Dart Music Festival

Trained as a classical violinist from an early age, Eliza Jaye and her older sister Anna (Bat For Lashes, British Sea Power) began busking around the streets of Sydney and playing recitals at the Sydney Opera House from the time Eliza was nine.

As a teenager Eliza began playing with various bands as violinist, vocalist, and cellist. Eventually, she bought her first acoustic guitar, began crafting songs, and discovered what was to become her true passion. She was naturally drawn to the blues and spent a year listening to nothing but Billy Holiday's album Lady Sings the Blues.

"I had discovered myself as a singer and began teaching myself guitar. I fell in love with Billy Holiday's heartfelt lyrics and the character in her voice. I wanted to be able to stir powerful feelings and emotion like that."

At the end of her schooling, Eliza began a degree in opera at Wollongong University, but left early, feeling pulled towards the excitement of getting out in the world, honing her own songwriting, and playing live. She cut her teeth, first in Sydney and later in the UK, having settled in Brighton.

Eliza has been playing solo and also with her band since 2008. In 2014 she toured extensively as violinist, vocalist and guitarist with UK acts Moulettes and Abi Wade. She continues to perform as a solo artist and with bands both within the UK & internationally.

"To say Eliza has presence is an understatement. Confidently standing alone with her gorgeous Les Paul, her style and personality dominate the room. Eliza has an original sound all her own and it's clear to say she loves what she does and lives the moment of each song. Brilliant!"

Her debut album, The Seed, features her sister Anna (Bat For Lashes, British Sea Power) on violin and was released on 26th July 2013. Eliza's second album is due out in 2015.
