Meet the Musicians - Two
 Matthew Chambers and Irma Vastakaite
 
Matthew Chambers

Matthew, 22, studies the violin under Nicholas Miller at the Royal Academy of music, where he is taking a Masters degree in violin performance.

At the Academy he has helped establish the Temple ensemble and worked with renowned chamber music coaches such as Richard Ireland and Ian Brown. He has performed as a first violin in the Academy chamber and symphony orchestras, working with leading soloists and conductors such as Maxim Vengerov, Sir Mark Elder and Semyon Bychkov.

In June 2014 Matthew graduated from Cambridge University, where he read biology at Robinson College.

During his three years there, he was a violinist in the University Chamber Orchestra working regularly with Sir Roger Norrington, and performed in the acclaimed Thurlow quartet and Alighieri quintet.

Solo performances include Vaughan Williams’ ‘The Lark Ascending’ accompanied by Eton Chamber Orchestra, Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with the Cambridge Rococo orchestra, and recitals in St Mark’s Regents Park, St Saviour’s church St. Albans and Clare College Cambridge. Matthew has performed in masterclasses with soloists such as Tasmin Little, and received coaching from internationally renowned groups including the Henschel Quartet, Trio di Parma and Chilingirian Quartet.

 
Irma Vastakaite

Born in Klaipeda in 1991, Irma Vastakaite is soon to establish young violinist who is passionate for chamber music.
  
She has started playing violin at the age 9 and after moving to the capital she attended National M.K.Ciurlionis School of Art. There she studied with professors Jonas Urba and Arturas Silale as well as attended various master classes including with Pavel Berman in Klaipeda, professor Petru Munteanu in Druskininkai, Lithuania and at Kloster Schöntal, Germany.
 
While enjoying solo playing, Irma has also played in different chamber groups and orchestras, and had concert tours in Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Netherlands and Austria.
In 2010 after being allocated a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music, Irma started her undergraduate degree with Professor Eric Gruenberg.  

She has participated in master classes with Thomas Brandis, a chamber master class with Turner Ensemble member Frances Angel, and also had a chance to play in the International Alexander Technique conference.
 
Recent highlights include performances with a newly formed violin and piano duo - Duo Vastedt with pianist Greta Astedt as well as performances in the Orpheus Orchestra, Milton Keynes City Orchestra, ‘Oxford May Music‘ festival‘s All-Star Orchestra, Eroica Ensemble and uncoducted Aldwych Ensemble.


Currently, Irma is studying with Royal Academy of Music‘s professor Jack Liebeck.
