The Jay Tamkin Band at Dart Music Festival

Jay Tamkin began music from a very young age...

He started his first band 'The Crackers' (originally 'Jacob and the Cream Crackers') in school, meanwhile playing in the school wind band and then jazz band.

Eventually he was selected to be part of the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra, where he stayed as principal bass player for many years.

During this time Jay made some incredible achievements - such as playing on TV at H.M The Queen's Golden Jubilee - and many masterclasses and live performances with some of UK and USA's top jazz artists including Jools Holland and friends, Dennis Rollins, Pete Long and many more...

It was also during this time that Jay continued working as a song writer and performer with his own original rock band which slowly began to infuse blues influences, then successfully entered the blues market in full force.

Following this introduction Jay Tamkin & the band recorded four live tracks at Maida Vale studios in London as a feature on the Paul Jones BBC Radio 2 Blues Show, and has since released two all-original albums titled 'SORTED' and 'ALIBI' which are both available in music shops across UK and Europe and on all respected online stores.

Through his own songwriting merits Jay has been fortunate enough to have played with some of his favourite artists and supported some impressive names  in the blues, jazz, funk and rock world. Here are just some of the names Tamkin has worked with or shared a stage with - prepare to be impressed...:

Robin Trower, Eric Burdon, Paul Young, Roy Ayres, Nigel Kennedy, John Etheridge, Blind Boys of Alabama, The Blockheads, Wilko Johnson, Todd Wolfe (Sheryl Crow), Chris Farlowe, Madeline Bell, The Fabulous Thunderbirds,  SpookyTooth, Stan Webb's Chicken Shack, Ian Siegal, Buddy Whittington, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, Nine Below Zero, Ruby Turner, Jools Holland, MAN, Buddy Whittington, Popa Chubby and many more...

In the past ten years Jay Tamkin has been touring across UK, Europe & USA playing his own style of blues/rock music.

Enough to whet your appetite?? It should be...
